Backup Exec Selection List Browse Error

I need a solution

Hello,

I am running Backup Exec 2012 as a trial in order to determine if it suitable for the purposes of backing up all of our servers.  It was going so well installing the agent until I get to one server which is reporting a 'Browse Failure' error message when I try to look at a selection list for the purpose of creating a new backup job.  All other servers added work, all servers are using a centralised domain service account which has the following group membership:

* Backup Operators

* Domain Admins

* Users

The server that the browse failure is failing on is a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2 (confirmed it is still supported).  I have tried to address the possible causes by updating the Local Security Policy on the affected server by assigning the following user rights:

- create a token object
- log on as a batch job
- log on as a service

Still no joy.  I have also removed the server from Backup Exec, added it again and applied any updates for the Remote Agent.  I have also performed a full uninstall and reinstall of the Remote Agent on the affected server.

Please could somebody take a look at the attached debug log file as I cannot identify what the underlying cause is through the log file?

Hi,

I am runnning Backup Exec 2012 SP3. Version 14.0 Rev 1798 (64bit)

When I am trying to restore a VM with 2 virtual disks, I get the following errors:

Job ended: 27 February 2014 at 12:25:29
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe000957e - Unable to create the new virtual machine.
Final error category: Resource Errors

Environment: Backup Exec 2012 Rev. 1798 64 Bit with Service Pack 3 on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with a Tandberg T24 LTO-5 changer and a standalone LTO-5 drive, backing up three Windows 2008 servers, a Linux server, and a VMware ESXi host. Weekly full and daily incremental backups to deduplication storage with linked copies to the changer, plus monthly off-site copies of the latest full backups from the changer to the standalone drive.

Every once in a while, one of the daily copies from deduplication store to tape fails with the error:

I have previously posted this problem here, and thought I had solved it by reorganizing my jobs so that the off-site backups are done as copies from on-site ones. But four weeks later, the problem is back, strangely enough only for a single one of my many jobs. Also I am still at a loss what that message actually tries to tell me.

7.6.0.1 upgrade, Image cleanup takes forever... and

Upgrading from 7.5.0.6 to 7.6.0.1 on win2008.

Initiating bpimage -cleanup -allclients... takes forever and Job Details shows:  "finished importing all images into database (Count=0)"

Count=0 - Doesn't look right to me.

Doesn't help running 'bpimage -cleanup -allclients' again.

bpdbm -consistency 2 reports a lot of "media is not allocated to this host nor is in an appropiate server group"

Hmmm, Support? or Reinstall 7.5.0.6 and DR.... ideas anyone?

Backup of Exchange 2013

Hi all,

 

I haven't experience with Exchange 2013. The following is the escenario: Media Server with BE 2012 is mounted in Windows 2008 R2. Exchange Server 2013 is mounted in Windows 2012. The backup job works and end successful. When we try to make a restore job and I review the contents of the Storage Information backuped I only see logs files (see attached screenshot).

Question: With this information Can I restore all data for my mail Exchange server?

Backup Exec 2012 R2 - Copy to tape terminates with Hardware error.

I need a solution

I have a HP MLS4048 Tape Library connected with SCSI to a server HP Proliant 380 G6, running Windows Standard Server 2008 R2.
With Microsofts drivers for Tape Drive installed, the backup goes smooth, but very slow, only 120 MB/min.

With Symantecs drivers installed, the job rate is about 2000 MB/min (!), BUT the job terminats after a while with Hardware Error.
This happens every time, either in the beginning of the backup job or after a while.

Anyone out there which have solution?

DLO 7.5 Global Excludes List Not Working

I need a solution

Hi there,

So I have several folders listed in my Global Excludes list and many of them are still being backed up to the users' Network Data folder. The profile's backup selections are arranged such that I have a custom selection for the entire C:\ drive and the Include/Exclude option is set to "Include all file types (except global excludes)." In the Global Exclude list I have all the files/folders that I don't want backed up. For example one of these entries is for C:\users\%USERNAME%\Downloads. However, when I look in the users' Network data folders this directory is being backed up.

Symantec support has told me that profile selections trumph the Global Excludes list, but I would think the "Include all file types (except global excludes) setting would work the way it is stated.

Am I missing something?

Hi All,

we are planning to upgrade netbackup from 6.5 to 7.5. Can any one share the advantages and dissadvantages to upgrade on windows 2003/ windows 2008 server and which OS is more compatable to install 7.5

Current Environment details :

Master OS version : windows 2003 R2

Netbackup version : Netbackup 6.5.5

I need a solution

Netbackup Env: Windows Server 2008 R2 + 4 media servers,

IBM Robot, EMC Celera fillers,

Master + Media NB version 7.5.0.7

 

I am trying to backup some emc filers through NDMP on tapes, IBM robot, we have 3 fillers, 2 are working but this one is not.

I attached the joblog, If you wany any other information please just ask (if you ask for other types of logs please provide location of it)

UEFI BMR Restore Netbackup 7.6

Our Environment:

NBU 7.6.0.1 Master / BMR Master / BMR Boot Windows 2008 R2.

Source BMR Client Windows 2008 R2 UEFI Enabled.

Destination Dissimiler Hardware Client is non-EFI system.

 

I just want to confirm is it possible to restore UEFI System BMR Backup to non-EFI system which is only have BIO Boot there is no UEFI Booting support.

because when i am trying to restore UEFI BMR BAckup to non-EFI System restoration job completed and at the and of BMR Restoration i received an error on "Finalize Restore" and the error is mentioned below for refernce.

 

" Unable to make Registry modification required to boot the system"

BE2010R3 - Job history is not displayed

I need a solution

yesterday 1 backup-job failed and I wanted to check the job-history (e.g. BEX_Sxx_1234.xml) but the window didn't open. 

OS: w2K8R2 latest patched

BE: 2010 R3 with SP4

This server is the primary server, cause he shares the tape-drive with a second server. on the second-server the job-history of

each jobs appears without any problem. Run the

 

-)diag-utility,

-)repaired the db,

-)rebuild the indices

and

-) repaired the installation of be201r3,

 

but still no good. You see the second window in the attached pics,

but it want come into foreground (s65.jpg), like normally (s100.jpg).

Jobs are still working, but it is odd to check the jogb-history in the

xml-file instead of the gui.

Hello,

We are looking at changing the way that we run backups in some of our offices and i'd like to understand if there are any difficulties or issues that might come up the way I am planning on doing it.

We have 2 standalone backup exec servers in separate offices and essentially we'd like to:

Backup data in Site A to disk

Duplicate the data in this backup to disk at Site B

Duplicate the data from here to tape, at Site B

Am I right in thinking that we'd need to have the CASO installed somewhere to be able to duplicate a backup to remote storage on another backup exec server?

Just to put an extra spanner in the works, we would like to have the CASO installed on a server completely separate to the two above. Is this possible? Would it have any problems with duplicating the backup to tape at Site B?

Hi

Im trying to plan a disaster recovery test for a customer.

They are running a couple of HyperV 2008R2 Servers. They are backup by a Backup Exec 12.5 with VM addon down to a HP autoloader.

Now we need to test that we can restore it at a second site with a single tapeloader. Is it possible to restore Backup Exec 12.5 VM backups using Backup Exec 2012, on a Hyper-V 2012R2. Or do we need to use the exact same OS and Backup Exec version?

interrupt when backup large SQL databases

Hi,

Usually MSSQL backups are interrupted at the middle of backup, it success if try again second or third times.

We tried scenerios below,(First tried with version 7.5.0.5, then 7.6.0.1 and result is same) What is the root cause of the problem do you think?

Three questions, regarding v7.0.x and v7.1.0.x Windows clients, after reading this:

1) How can we determine whether UseNTIO=0 is actually being honoured by a client ?

2) Is a stop and restart of NetBackup Client services actually really required ?  (i.e. do the client services pickup and remember whether UseNTIO=0 is present, or does bpbkar32.exe check for it each time it starts)

3) Does UseNTIO=0 have any involvement with restores, or is it purely to do with selecting which implementation of BackupRead API to use ?

I've tried testing it with a Windows 7 client with full level 5 logging, and I tried findstr the bpbkar logs for "NTIO" - but nothing obvious seen.

How to prevent USB drive being added to backup?

I need a solution

Hi,

I am running BE 2012 to back up all my servers.

There has been a problem with backups taking a vast time to run over the last two days.

It appears that the backup job that was supposed to backup a single selected drive also added a large USB drive to its selection that I had temporarily connected to the machine.

How do I prevent BE2012 automatically adding USB drives to the backup selection in this manner?

QFS with NBU

Hello,

We have BSCS application from LHS installed on QFS on Solaris 10.

We tried to backup the application files with NBU, but it was incoherent after the restore.

I have two questions:

-is NBU compatible with QFS (not SAM-QFS) on Solaris?
-How could we backup flatfiles of BCS application from LHS with NBU ONLINE (online is important)?
