Hi there, we're running Backup Exec version 2010 on Server 2003.

Whenever the services stop for whatever reason, some of the services will not start again.  I've discovered that the ones that don't start lose the credentials and will require me to re-enter the credentials.  The account is fine, because once the credentials are re-entered everything works fine.

Does anyone know why this might occur?

I am currently using the 2011 version and want to upgrade to 2013.

What is the procedure to do this?  Can I install over the old version and save all the current configuration/jobs?

I have been getting this error recently, but have not been able to resolve it.

The weird thing is that all the backup tasks are completed, but it still throws this error.

Error category    : Resource Errors
Error             : e000ff12 - A communications failure has occurred with an Exchange Store resource.

One or more Microsoft Exchange databases were backed up but the Symantec Backup Exec Active Directory Recovery Agent is not installed. Symantec recommends that you install and use the Active Directory Recovery Agent to better manage your Microsoft Exchange data.

Does anyone know what is going on?  It recently started doing this.

I have settup BMR on Netbackup 7.0.

first Enable Baremetal on Master server which is running on solaris.  Then I have register the Boot server on Windows and setting up the Bare Metal Policy with the following parameters:

Policy Type: MS Windows

Collect disaster recovery information for:

Intelligent Disaster Recovery (This option is disabled and i dont know how to enable it)

Bare Metal Restore. (Enabled)

Collect True Image restore information (Enabled)

 With move detection (enabled)

Backup Selection List:

ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES

System State

I run the policy and the backup was succesfull.

After that I lookup for Bare Metal Restore Clients and refresh this windows but there is no client. I would like to know if i have a misconfigured policy or services.

Can enyvody help me?..

We're using BE 2010 R3 SP1 fully patched.  Our avvi jobs are failing randomly with "V-79-57344-38721 - Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images".  We're using san and nbd transport modes.  The jobs are GRT-enabled so we can restore invidivual files.  Hotfix 195395 has already been applied.  It happens to random virtual machines.  Has anyone run into this issue even after the hotfix that "resolves" the issue has been applied?

I'm trying to re-create a backup job in BE2012 the same way we have it now in BE2010R3 but I'm having trouble in getting this particular job to run at the desired time.

In BE2010 we run jobs based on daily (Mon-Thursday) Weekly (Friday) and Monthly (Last Friday on the month).  This is the backup policy which most of our jobs conform to. For a couple of jobs we need to specify that the job does not start until 2am in the morning. In BE2010 we did this by using the same policy as per the other jobs but assigning an Availability Window on the selection list for the specific jobs which needed to only start after 2am.

The benefit of this was that on those monthly jobs which backup on the last Friday of the month we could effectively have these jobs run after 2am on the Saturday without having to worry about creating a new job for Saturdays as at least once a year this would not work when the last Friday of the month was the last date of the month meaning that a 'last Saturday of the month' would actually run the week before.

I'm sure that there must be a way of configuring this in BE2012 but I'm struggling to find it at present.  Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any software (Symantec or not), that will be able to monitor on and report for Backup Exec, Evault and SEP all in the same dashboard\application? I read on Symantec OpsCenter Analytics but it doesnt evwen support Backup Exec 2010 or 2012 and requires Netbackup. Thanks!

We have BE 2010 R3. Our other sites use 10d, 11d, and 12. Is it possible to use 2010 to view the other site backups?

I'm trying to restore a tape from another BE installation and it's encrypted. I've catlogued the media but it's using the encryption key with the same name, which has the wrong pass phrase. I've tried removing this key but it states that it's using three restore jobs that don't exist, and replacing it says that it's not in use. Is there any way that I can either:

a) remove the three restore jobs that the key is associated with? In 2010 you used to have selection lists but due to 2012's shoddy GUI I have no idea how to find these selections.

b) force it to use a different encryption key.

This is already with Support (case 03591776) but wanted to put it out here as well to see if I can get it cracked.

I am pretty sure that this is an AIR issue more than a BMR issue but obviously there is a relationship between the two.

So the setup:

All a brand new installation

2 sites, each has 2 N5220 appliances (one Master / Media / BMR Master) one just a Media

All appliances on 2.5.1b with AIR EEB Bundle applied

All clients on 7.5.0.4 and set to collect BMR Data

One site is the main site and does most backups, no real backups done on site 2 as yet.

Backups and BMR collection work perfectly on the main site (just 8 Windows clients being backed up so far, mix of 2003 and 2008) and all show under BMR Clients section

AIR Replication works fine

AIR Import works fine in general but since starting to take BMR data some imports end with a Status of 1 - these relate to imports on the Master and Media Server at site 2.

So out of the 8 clients being backed up and AIR replicated I have 3 on the remote site showing under BMR Clients.

Following the import the automatic restore job runs (for /C/Program Files/Veritas/NetBackup/BareMetal/client/data/bundle.dat) runs successfully.

So BMR is configure and working as it is all visible on the remote site and three clients have worked fine - so i need to track down why the others do not.

Any ideas?

We have an old NetBackup server (NBU 5MP6) that we are no longer using in production but would like to keep around for legacy catalog searches and restores. I am interested in changing the name of the server to uniquely identify its current use, for example, "server" to "server-legacy". Will simply changing the name of the server compromise our ability to perform catalog searches and restores?

I have upgraded from Backup Exec 2010 R3 to 2012 with the latest service pack and hot fixes applied. The server is 2008 R2.

During the 2012 installation the jobs were migrated and I have the error regarding the Shadow Copy Components being appearing and causing errors when testing server credentials.

I have removed all my remote servers and re-added them which has fixed the issue however I am unable to remove the media server itself.

I have followed the Tech Article TECH179966 (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&pmv=print&impressions=&viewlocale=&id=TECH179966) and the shadow copy components do not appear in under the selection list or the selection details.

I have removed all backup definitions for this server and created a brand new definition from scratch not using any previously defined definitions and the Shadow Copy Components is still being displayed.

If I click on the server and then view the Credentials without opening any backup definitions the Shadow Copy Components appear there and I am unable to remove them.

Master : 6.5 windows ....its the robot control host.

Now, I have a drive AAA which is having problem where...

It has two paths configured...for path1 bakps working fine..for path2 (it has NDMP host configured)  it has problem from where NDMP backups run...

The job keep in mounting status and eventually fails as robot operation failed...

This is what ltid log file says...

I have a weird issue here. I have just setup a brand new BE 3600 R2 appliance just yesterday. 

When I am accessing the web UI with IE9 on windows 7, and IE8 on another machine (XP), whenever i click on the "hardware" or "Remote Launch" I will have this error message "Your session has expired, please login again" 

I do not have any issues at all when I am using Mozilla Firefox.

I have added the URL in the trusted sites, clear cache, enable cookies. Nothing worked.

Is this a bug?

Edit: Tried with compatibility mode too but still no go.

BE appliance is patched to latest update.

i am using backup exec 2012 and using as medias rdx  drives.

I have created my job with overwrite after 6 days. However on my media status i see : Overwrite Protect: Infinite - Do not overwrite.

How can i remove this to overwrite?

We have Dell Powervalt NX3100 with Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Standard.

This server has 2 disks:

Disk0 - Basic 278 GB contains

Partition1 - Dell Utility - 32 MB

Partition2 - Recovery - 2GB

Partition3 - OS - 80GB

Partition4 - DATAPART1 - 196 GB

Disk1 - Basic 10 TB Contains

Partition1- Basic -10 TB.

Server has SSr2013 Server Edition Installed.

All disks and partitions are visible in SSR2013

New Backup Job is created. All partitions are visible.

Partion1, Partition2 and Partition3 are selected to be backed. Job is saved. Then job run and images of 3 partitions are created.

Then Job is edited. Partion 1 is disppeared from selection and list on first screen of Job editing task.

And then images of Partitin2 and Partition3 is created? but not Partition1.
 

I was reading the Shared storage guide.Below i was not able to understand

1. Scan host basically tells the EMM server that this drive(abc) is unassigned and if a job comes please assign this drive to the job?
2. If the scan host is down,EMM will automatically pick one of the media server and make it a SCAN host?
3. Every job has a same  scan host untill a problem occurs?
